of hand studios

Portland, Oregon

My fascinations with the concepts of process in time and relationship have been a major driving force in creating with clay. Growing up as the child of a studio potter, I discovered early on that my relationship with the medium would undergo a constant state of evolution and flux. I am continually awestruck as this evolution occurs both through technical and practical exploration as well as through emotional and spiritual growth.

Clay has always been an honest reflection of my present state of life. My functional forms evolve as my life takes on new dimensions, the marks made on the surfaces of my work; simple finger prints, pull rings, rib markings, brush marks, reflect the everyday experiences that I am transcending through.

The large transitions, new houses, lovers, babies, jobs, and the more subtle transitions, new cracks in my hands, the spring buds emerging in my backyard, and the quiet and unpredictable dripping of the leaky faucet in the bathroom are a catalyst for creation. They mark the process of time, both large and small. The fluidity of this process is what moves me to grow and evolve as an artist.

I work out of my home studio in Portland, Oregon and specialize in functional and contemporary porcelain tableware. All of my pieces are designed and created solely by my own hands and made in custom batches.
